If you're going to travel with your portable media player then you may be worried about how easy it might be to crack or scratch the screen. The mPack overcomes such stresses by folding its 4in wide-format screen away like a clam shell, which means you can also adjust the angle of the screen while you're watching a film.

The device comes with a slightly small 20GB hard disk, but makes up for it with the range of media types it can play off the cuff. Both video and audio are well supported, with familiar formats such as WAV, MP3, AAC, AVI, MPEG 1, 2 and 4, alongside not so well-known formats like OGG music files and VOB video. The VOB file support is particularly handy as it's the native format that video is stored on DVD discs, so you don't even need to rip and convert the files from a disc – you can just transfer them straight to the player.

The picture quality is stunning for such a small screen, but hook it up to a regular TV with the supplied S-Video and audio cables and you'd be forgiven for thinking you were watching a DVD, presuming the original file was good enough quality.
