What we liked:
PC Tips Box is packed with useful advice, interesting news and straightforward walkthroughs. It provides a wide variety of technical tips that cover all Windows versions, Mac OS and even Linux, as well as focusing on Firefox, iTunes and other popular applications. Tips cover common tasks, security improvements and useful projects, and are added and updated regularly.

The search facility makes finding tips on particular subjects easy, while you can browse categories of the most recent and most popular to learn something new. Most importantly, all advice is clearly written and simple to follow.

How it could be improved:
The site uses prominent Google ads to support its upkeep, but as these are embedded in the body of the text they can obscure the actual advice. There are also pop-up keyword ads that can detract from the content. The site would benefit from better-placed advertising.

Our verdict:
PC Tips Box provides a lot of useful technical advice and help, but this is marred slightly by intrusive advertising.

Sample tip:
Windows Vista places a file on your computer that it uses for going into hibernation mode. If you don't use this mode, disable hibernation and clear the file to free up some space on your hard disk.
