Opera is fast, fun (it supports BitTorrent media and Desktop widgets) and innovative. It is compatible with all major web standards and is common on a variety of different devices including mobile phones and Nintendo's Wii gaming console. If that's not enough, the latest version comes loaded with most of the tools you need to stay safe online. For instance, fraud protection protects you against sites that try to steal your personal information, and support for Secure Socket Layer (SSL) versions 2 and 3, as well as automatic 256-bit encryption, make it one of the safest browsers around.

While standards support in Opera 9.1 is very good overall, we did occasionally run into problems with websites not working properly. Opera enjoys a passionate and devoted fan base, but there are few FAQs on its site, and there is no telephone support. We really like Opera 9.1, but its wide range of features are somewhat esoteric for those who simply want a solid, secure browser.
