The Netgear device is an attractive looking box, low and flat with a silver finish. Its flat nature makes it quite unobtrusive, and it has holes for hooks on its underside in case you want to hang it on the wall.

The unit suffered a little on the setting up front, with slightly complicated concepts brushed over a little in the installation guide, and not particularly well presented in the CD-based PDF manual. Once this device is up and running though, it's a good performer.

Although this looks pricey on first glance, we've given it a bit of leeway on value for money, because our research shows that it is significantly discounted by online retailers.

Well featured and sophisticated, with 54Mbps wireless capability and four Ethernet ports, the main downside is the manual and startup procedure, which aren't as friendly as competing products and lose it marks on the ease of use front.
