When creating a technical tool for people with no technical expertise, the trick is to combine simplicity of use with rewarding results. Magix Website Maker achieves this in spadefuls. Its templates are the best-looking of any program here by a country mile and it integrates well with Magix's own photo album and music software. It also has stacks of Flash-based animations (perhaps a little too many sometimes) to add oomph to your site and there's plenty of help for beginners, thanks to a series of animated tutorials. These are worth exploring if only to get your head round the idea that pages are created by layering text, pictures, background and other elements on top of one another. The whole process is entirely web-based, so the CD only includes ancillary programs for handling music, photos and video. The price of the program, however, includes a sub-domain on Magix's servers with 250MB of storage (for a maximum of 99 sites) that lasts for 12 months. That, combined with the aforementioned fancy templates, makes this an excellent choice for all web novices.
