Macs are generally considered to be more reliable than PCs but even they break down sometimes. MacFixIt is a site that recognises this fact and they've compiled a huge array of free software to download, technical reports on problems, and forums for users to chat about what could go wrong. Beginners might find it intimidating to begin with, but once you plunge into the murky world of acronyms and jargon it's not quite as confusing as it appears. Somewhere on the site there's somebody who can help you - it's just a question of finding them.
