What we liked:
Not so much a tips site as a way of life, Lifehacker is full of useful and interesting projects, all designed to appeal to your inner geek. If you've ever wondered how to achieve a particular task with your PC, or just want to learn a new techie trick, try running a search here. You'll find such gems as 'Make Windows look like a Mac with FlyakiteOSX', 'Minimize the Office 2007 Ribbon' and 'Back up your email with MailStore Home'. Tips range from simple advice on how to deal with common issues to projects that could transform your PC or help you use it more efficiently.

The most recent tips appear on the homepage, with new ones added all the time – sometimes dozens in a day. Use the search utility or keyword tags to find specific advice or just drop by for an idle browse to pick up some new skills. Tips often recommend software, which is generally free to download and use.

How it could be improved:
The site may not be quite as fulfilling for people with less than a working knowledge of IT. The inclusion of more simple projects might encourage visitors who aren't as computer literate.

Our verdict:
Fun, practical and bursting with geeky projects, Lifehacker comes highly recommended. It offers a diverse range of tips, which are updated frequently.

Sample tip:
Search a single site using Google by typing the site name into the search box like this: 'site:lifehacker.com email', where 'lifehacker.com' is the site you want to search and 'email' is your search term.
