This device offers great value for money for its capacity and features. It comes with automatic back-up software that can be used to back up a range of options from a single file through to an entire hard disk. But the main reason why you'd plump for this option is to view media on a TV. You have to save your files into ready-made folders for videos, pictures or music. You can then plug it into your TV using a standard Composite or S-Video cable, and a converter is provided if you want to use one of your TV's SCART ports. You can upgrade to digital quality sound and the device also supports HD-quality visuals if your TV can manage them. The main complaint is the overall lack of sophistication – to play music with a slideshow of pictures, for example, you have to make a special folder on the drive and save copies of your chosen background tracks in there.
