This review updated: 26/04/2007 Featured in magazine: Issue 160 Manufacturer Contacts: Web Address: www.microsoft.com/windows/ie IE7 includes built-in tabbed browsing, anti-phishing technology, an RSS reader, and a redesigned Favorites Center. It's also now the easiest of all browsers to use. Unfortunately, this was Microsoft's one chance to leapfrog ahead of the competition, but it's left playing catch-up. There are a lot of changes between IE6 and IE7, but most are merely cosmetic. IE7 is limited to Windows XP SP2 and Vista users only, and the laborious installation process requires rebooting. It also reuses old IE6 code and doesn't yet comply with current web standards. And thanks to Microsoft's lackadaisical approach to security you're arguably a sitting duck. The best thing about IE7 is that you know a website is going to work. The downside is that its features don't match those found in Firefox or Opera, and it carries a Microsoft legacy of not patching flaws or security threats quickly enough. Want to discuss this review?
