Google Desktop indexes thoroughly; looks inside Zip archives, PDFs and other file types; and finds files in a flash, but the interface is a major disappointment. It looks like www.google.com and runs in Internet Explorer. This is fine for web searching, but Windows programs like Yahoo and Copernic beat the pants off it. Uniquely you can upload search indexes to Google so you can find files from other PCs you use – a great idea, but you may have security concerns.
