While it would be unfair (and rather pointless) to compare the G-Shot 3000CC to pricey DV cameras from the likes of Sony, when it comes to budget models it's hard to beat. Incredibly compact and weighing just 110g, it fits snugly into both your palm and pocket. So when unexpected action occurs, you can whip it out and start shooting with a single hand.

From the onscreen menu, you can select which mode to work in, be it capturing a movie, photo or voice message. Once connected to your PC, you can use the camera for videoconferencing, data storage or even as a portable music player, as it will play back MP3 and WAV files. It provides 32MB of internal memory and comes with a 32MB MultiMedia Card, giving you enough space for almost 15 minutes of movie content or over 100 images at its highest resolution settings (640 x 480 pixels for video, 2,336 x 1,752 pixels for photos). The maximum capacity for expansion with an SD or MMC card is 512MB.

Movie quality is astoundingly good for such a small, cheap MPEG4 camcorder, yielding accurate colour and decent detail. Special effects like mosaic and sepia can be applied in-camera, while a 4x digital zoom magnifies your subject. Still images are a bit fuzzy, but a macro mode and self-timer are welcome features.

As if that wasn't enough, the 3000C comes with a wealth of accessories, including a tripod, earphones, carrying pouch and AV cables for viewing your mini-masterpieces on a big screen. It runs on two AA batteries – handy if the juice runs out mid-shoot.

Verdict
All in all, this is an amazing value camera that should fulfil the needs of any savvy gadget fiend.
