What's great about it:
Freetalk is perfect for anyone who likes a good chinwag as it offers unlimited UK calls for a fixed yearly or monthly fee. You get an adaptor that lets you plug your regular handset into your broadband connection. This lets you use your normal phone and also means your PC doesn't have to be switched on to make or receive a call. You get a new telephone number that people can call you on (so it's like having a second line installed) and you can choose a dialling code that's actually different from the area where you live. Freetalk is from DSG International, the owners of Dixons, Currys, PC World and The Link, and available to buy from any of those shops.

Room for improvement:
Strictly speaking, the calls aren't unlimited, because you can only talk for 60 minutes at a time. After that you're charged 2p a minute. To get round this, just hang up after an hour and call the person back. You can, of course, make as many free up-to-an-hour calls as you like. The international rates aren't as cheap as with some services and although calls to other users are free anywhere in the world, you can only actually purchase Freetalk in the UK. So you'd need to buy a second unit and ship it to the person you want to talk to.
