This review updated: 09/11/2006 Featured in magazine: Issue 148 Manufacturer Contacts: Web Address: www.freecom.com The Storage Gateway WLAN from Freecom is the most sophisticated device we tested. The disk itself has 160GB of space and can be attached to your network, either wired or wirelessly, to act as a storage receptacle for all the computers on your network. What's more, it can even connect to the internet to host websites (only serious broadband connections need apply) or work as an FTP server – great if you need files wherever you go. The fact that it has so many features, however, means it's not overly easy to set up. The networking part of things is simple, and by plugging it into an Ethernet port on either your PC or router if you have one, you can quickly get access to the device and its settings. To go further into its features, however, you'll need to have a bit of networking know-how, while the GB to the pound ratio reflects all those extra features. Want to discuss this review?
