At the time of going to press, this was the only product to have an upgrade available to take it to version 2.0 of the 802.11n draft specification, which may make it more likely to be compatible with the final specification when it comes out. This is a long way from guaranteeing it is future-proof but it's certainly a step in the right direction.

The set-up process is swift and simple thanks to D-Link's software which takes you through step-by-step instructions.

If you prefer, you can skip straight to the router settings – though you'll need to access the full manual on the CD to find the address and log-in details. Either way, the process is simple and the software used to set up the device through your browser also includes a wizard which has most of the UK broadband settings as a default. However, you may still need to go to your ISP or its web page for the odd setting.

Performance was decent, with good range and no worse a decrease in performance than expected with Wi-Fi once you start putting walls in the way. The suggested price is a smidgen higher than its rivals but shop around and you're bound to find it at a more competitive price.
