In addition to real-time protection and email scanning, Avast also protects again instant messaging and peer-to-peer borne viruses. While this is great in theory, detection levels were not as high as we might have hoped. Confusingly, double-clicking the System Tray icon accesses program settings rather than the main interface and the main program itself is confusing to say the least. On top of this, we found that scanning was rather slow.
