With a 40GB hard disk and 4in wide-format screen, this player has plenty of features for sophisticated video lovers. Its default setting is to hook tightly up to Windows Media Player 10, which makes it easy to synchronise movies, music and photos from your computer to the device. On the downside, it will only play the kinds of files you can play through Windows Media Player. While this is quite a lot, it isn't as versatile as the mPack P600.

There are a few other good features though. If you've got a digital camera that supports MSC (Mass Storage Class) you can connect it directly to your Archos player and copy files from it, though using the popular PictBridge format might have been even better. You can also connect an external hard disk to the device and copy directly to and from that, which is handy if that's the kind of place where you already keep your media to store it out of the way. Naturally, you can also connect to a TV.

Verdict
Sleek and black, this is a glamorous player with a good-looking screen, though you might end up having to do a bit of ripping and converting to get all your favourite videos onto the device.
