We're always on the look out for great value for money at Web User, but sometimes you just can't get away from the fact that the most expensive is also the best. Adobe's Premiere Elements isn't really competing on price at all – it's almost £10 more than its nearest rivals – but what you get for the extra money is a superior product.

The editing side of things is fast and efficient. A timeline or scene menu can be used to pull everything together, depending on the complexity of your project. Editing is then done by moving a marker along the timeline and either hitting the scissors button to split a clip, or using the Control-K shortcut. Right-click on unwanted bits to eliminate them and, optionally, to shuffle the other clips up automatically. The huge preview window helps enormously.

You stay in the editing tool to create and complete both DVD and online projects. On the web side of things, Premiere Elements will write directly to a Flash video file (the only software offering this option) or you can use the built-in YouTube uploader without having to leave the software. If anything, it may have too many features for some, with advanced elements like HD editing and writing to Blu-ray discs.

If you want to save a bit of money and are also in the market for an image-editing package, this comes bundled with Adobe's photo-editing software Photoshop Elements (winner of a Web User Silver award in Issue 179) for a great-value bundled price of £104.58.
