This review updated: 29/09/2005 Featured in magazine: Issue 119 Manufacturer Contacts: Supplier: 1&1 Web Address: www.1and1.co.uk Web-design software for novices usually involves clunky templates with gaudy colours and dodgy clipart. This certainly isn't the case with 1&1's online site builder, which offers a broad selection of professional-looking designs in tasteful shades and plenty of scope for customising your pages. WebsiteBuilder is extremely easy to use, requiring no HTML knowledge while breaking down the design process into digestible chunks. For example, a Page Suggestions feature proposes how to structure your site according to category, be it Power Sports, Private Business or (shudder) Feelings. To the basic template, it's simple to add your own text, play around with colour and style, and insert photos, either from the extensive graphic archive or uploaded from your hard disk. Other extras include tables, visitor counters, surveys, guest books and even a snazzy Flash intro.

Beyond the look and layout, WebsiteBuilder makes promoting your site straightforward, by submitting a description and keywords to search engines. It also provides access to advanced tools as you develop your skills, and uses an Auto Save function to protect work-in-progress. The builder is available with all 1&1 packages, with home users able to create and host a 12-page site for just £4.99 per month. |
