iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2 operating systems - our first review

What is it?
iOS 4.1 is the next operating system upgrade for iPhone and iPod Touch. iOS 4.2 is its successor for iPads.

What's new?
iOS 4.1 lets you use FaceTime calling and Game Center on the iPod Touch. It also brings multitasking and folders to both the iPod Touch and the iPhone.

Apple has fixed a number of bugs with the iOS 4 and the latest version includes TV-show rentals and HD-video uploading over Wi-Fi.

It also adds High Dynamic Range (HDR) photo capabilities. This technology takes three versions of the same photo - one underexposed, one overexposed and one normal - and combines them to give a clearer more accurate image.

The iOS 4.2 for the iPad will bring folders to the iPad as well as enable wireless printing.

What colours does it come in?
N/A

How much is it?
Both will be free downloads from iTunes.

When is it available?
iOS 4.1 is available from iTunes now. iOS 4.2 is expected in November.

Web User's first impressions:
The folders and multitasking of the iOS 4.1 are incredibly useful, as is the HD video upload of Wi-Fi. The HDR photo technology is excellent but it's not until you put a normal photo next to the HDR version that you truly see how brilliant this technology is.

A number of people had trouble with the iOS 4 download with it wiping apps or music so let's hope this glitch has been sorted in these latest versions.
