Paul the psychic octopus searches spike

Octopus Orakel - or as he's more commonly known, Paul the octopus - has so far predicted the correct outcome of every 2010 World Cup match in which Germany have played.

The media attention has caused a huge spike in people searching for all terms octopus-related as well for Paul the octopus himself.

'Paul the octopus', 'Paul the psychic octopus' and 'Paul the oracle octopus' search terms all jumped significantly in the weeks since 19 June according to web analysts Hitwise.

And the eight-legged psychic has tipped Spain to win the World Cup for the first time ever when they play Holland on Sunday 11 July.

Paul currently lives in a tank in Sea Life Oberhausen in Germany although was born in Weymouth, Dorset. His name comes from a German children's poem Der Tintenfisch Paul Oktopus.

He correctly predicted the winner of each of Germany's World Cup matches including their recent defeat to Spain in the semi-finals.

Octopus Orakel has only been wrong twice in his history of predicting matches in which he went for Germany in the group stages and final of Euro 2008 but Croatia and Spain won those particular matches respectively.

An octopus who has been correctly predicting the results of World Cup 2010 matches has caused a surge in people searching for related terms.
