iPhone 4 spoof video worker faces sack
A video that ridicules the iPhone 4 and the people that wish to buy one could have cost a man his job.
Brian Maupin, an employee of US chain store Best Buy, faces disciplinary action after the video, in which a tetchy sales assistant tries to explain to a persistent customer that he doesn't have any iPhone 4 handsets to sell, was posted on YouTube.
The video, which contains swearing, compares the iPhone 4 unfavourably to the HTC Evo 4G, but makes no mention of Best Buy. It had been watched more than 2.7 million times at the time of writing.
According to Associated Press, Best Buy told Maupin, 25, to either quit or face disciplinary action.
Warning: This video contains swearing
Maupin, who posted the video on a YouTube account named Tiny Watch Productions, expressed no remorse.
"TWP may have lost its job due to this video, but it's okay internets, we still love you!" he wrote on the YouTube channel.
Many of the video's viewers expressed their support for Maupin.
"I am unsure why ya got fired man, your [sic] a genius for creating this. And Yes, Best Buy has lost a customer. You need to pull out the hand book or any rule book they might have given to you when you were hired initially. Present it to your lawyer and also ask for the form in which stated your termination from Best Buy," one wrote on YouTube.
A later message from Maupin thanked viewers for their support. "Thanks to everyone for your support. Not sure what's going to happen next but one thing's for sure: more videos are coming," the message reads.
Best Buy said it would be some time before an investigation into the matter was completed. The company plans to open stores in the UK later this year.
