2010 FIFA World Cup scam warning
With the 2010 World Cup in South Africa due to begin in just over one month, security experts are warning of another spam email campaign surrounding the tournament.
Fraudulent emails relating to the World Cup have been circulating since January 2009 and have come in the form of fake sweepstake offers and phishing scams.
The latest scam, spotted by Trend Micro, tells recipients that they have won a lottery organised by the Canadian and South African governments and asks you to visit a website to claim your win.
However, the PDF file attached to the email is littered with mistakes, including a postal address that gives a British postcode yet claims to be in South Africa.
"Users should be wary of more of these kinds of attacks or variants of these attacks as the sports event draws closer," said Jovi Umawing of Trend Micro.
