UK Secret Service files released online

You can now access UK Secret Service files about American film director Carl Nathan Foreman and wartime German agent Rudolph Rosel online.

The files are among those released this month by the UK authorities on the National Archives website and can be accessed for free until April.

Other documents include reports on the activities of Irish playwright Brendan Behan and Hungarian-born Edward de Grunchy, who escaped from a German prisoner of war camp in 1941 and arrived in Britain with a suspicious story that lead to his detention on security grounds.

The government regularly releases previously classified files on the National Archives website, including papers about Zoe Wanamaker's father Sam Wanamaker, who was suspected of being a communist.

UFO files are also regularly released, though a new Ministry of Defence policy to destroy UFO reports after 30 days means that these releases will soon dry up.

Secret Service files about Irish playwright Brendan Behan are among those that have been released on the National Archives website.
