O2 will allow iPhone unlocking

Anyone who owns an iPhone operating on the O2 network will be able to unlock it provided they are out of contract.

If you own an iPhone you may be pleased to hear that O2 will not prevent you from unlocking your handset, provided you are out of contract.

The company confirmed that it would not stand in the way of customers who wished to move to another network, and that there would be no charge for Pay Monthly iPhone customers.

Orange will officially launch the iPhone on Tuesday, with Vodafone set to offer the handset in the new year.

However, given the similarity between the deals on offer from Orange and O2, there isn't much to be gained by changing networks this week.

In fact, Orange has been criticised for claiming to offer 'unlimited' data as part of its tariff, when it has actually placed a 750MB monthly cap on contracts.
