Twitter members can show their respects on Remembrance Day by marking the traditional two-minute silence and not posting any 'tweets' at 1100GMT.
The Royal British Legion has set up its own Twitter account, @PoppySupport, and is using the hashtag #2minutesilence for tweets relating to the campaign.
Participating members are encouraged to retweet the message: "2 minute silence on Twitter 11:00am GMT on 11 November #2minutesilence RT plz".
Remembrance Day falls on Wednesday 11 November. On Sunday 9 November, ceremonies will take place at war memorials around the country to honour fallen British and Commonwealth servicemen and women.
The BBC will show coverage of the ceremony at the Cenotaph in London, which will be attended by the Queen and other members of the Royal Family.
Coverage will also be streamed online through the BBC website.

I'm really pleased that this idea has been picked up by the press and that Twitter users are embracing it. I had the idea for the #2minutesilence last week whilst speaking to my sister who suggested anyone continuing to use their PC really wasn't paying respect during the 2 minutes on 11/11.
I posted the idea that morning and Beverley Knight, who follows me on the site, 'ReTweeted' my post, which essentially gave it the impetus it required.
Well done RBL for taking it on and hopefully come next week, Twitter will fall silent as the rest of the country does.
