Welt Kompakt launches first public Google Wave

German newspaper Welt Kompakt has launched a public version of a Google 'Wave' to help readers interact with the publication.

The title is thought to be one of the first public companies to be using the real-time communication service.

It already has a Facebook page, YouTube channel and Twitter account.

Jan Bayer, publishing director of the Die Welt group said: "All these efforts are to help the title appeal to young educated and high-income readers in the cities."

Google is currently letting a restricted number of people trial the communication tool.

The search giant recently announced they are rolling out a Google Wave app store and is encouraging developers to come up with application ideas.
