Chrome OS to be outlined - reports

Google will this week lift the lid on Chrome OS, an operating system aimed at the netbook market, according to reports.

Google to unveil Chrome OS

Google will reveal more details about the Chrome OS on Wednesday evening in California, according to reports.

Chrome OS event was a mix-up, says Google

Local journalists were invited to attend an event at Google's HQ in Mountain View at 1800 local time on Wednesday (Thursday 0200BST).

The event will feature a talk from Google user interface designer Ben Goodger about Chrome OS and a question and answer session.

Chrome OS was first announced back in July this year and is an open-source operating system aimed at the netbook market.

Google already makes an open-source operating system for mobile handsets, Android, but by targeting the netbook platform, Google has caused many to speculate whether the company will one day directly take on Microsoft's Windows platform.

The company has already said that it would release Chrome OS to developers at some stage in 2009, though no systems running the operating system will be available until the middle of 2010.

You can see some screenshots of Chrome OS on the TechCrunch website.
