Denmark video causes YouTube row

Danish surfers are unimpressed by a viral video issued by the VisitDenmark tourist agency and have been venting their fury on YouTube.

A viral video campaign run by a Danish tourist agency is causing controversy on the web.

In the video, which can be seen on YouTube, a Danish woman by the name of Karen shows off her baby and tells viewers that little August was the result of a one-night stand she had with a tourist whose name she can't remember.

Tourism agency apologises for YouTube outcry

Information posted with the video simply reads: "Help me find the Father of Little August" and gives an email address and link to find out more information. The link doesn't actually lead anywhere.

But the woman in the video has been named as actress Ditte Arnth Jørgensen by a local newspaper, who also revealed that the video was the work of tourist agency VisitDenmark.

Surfers from Denmark have been expressing their distaste on YouTube.

"I'm from Denmark, and I think that its really f***ed up that VisitDenmark is doing this to get more visitors, now that everybody find out that this is a total lie, nobody wants to visit Denmark. They are putting us in a bad light! They suck!" one comment reads.

However, others see it as a cynical marketing ploy.

"Even though that the video is somewhat controversial, and perhaps not even the smartest idea from the Danish Tourism Board... you're all talking about Denmark. In a way that's the point in this video," another posting reads.
