Swine flu

A website set up to help track the spread of swine flu has gone live. The Flu Survey website asks visitors to answer a number of questions in order to collate information about disease hotspots. Since cases were first confirmed on the 21 April 2009, swine flu has spread to 135 countries around the world. There have so far been nearly 95,000 confirmed cases. Currently, information about the number of people suffering from the illness has been collected from GPs' reports, but the Flu Survey site hopes to offer a more effective way of tracking the spread of the swine flu. The site was jointly set up by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the Health Protection Agency.
