Swine flu malware spreads

A malicious file posing as a Word document is circulating on the web, luring surfers into opening it by claiming to have information about swine flu.

Swine flu malware

More malware that plays on people's fears over swine flu has been circulating online, security experts have warned. A malicious file by the name of Novel H1N1 Flu Situation Update.exe has been spreading in emails, researchers at security firm F-Secure said. The file poses as a Word document and if it is opened will install a keylogger on your system. "The document file that is dropped gets automatically opened by the malware, causing the user to think they really opened a Word file," said F-Secure's Mikko Hypponen. It isn't the first swine flu-related security warning issued in recent weeks, after a specially created PDF file containing malware was spotted. Earlier this week, the Flu Survey website, which asks sufferers of swine flu to complete a short survey in order to help track the spread of the disease, was launched.
