Fans and fellow celebrities have been paying tribute to singer Michael Jackson, who died on Thursday aged 50.

Celebrities and fans have been paying tribute to singer Michael Jackson who has died at the age of 50.

Many used Twitter to pay their respects when news of Jackson's death broke on Thursday.

"MJ was the best of the best. His music and performances made the world a brighter place. His light will shine on forever," the band Coldplay wrote on its Twitter feed.

Jamie Cullum tweeted: "Just came off stage from a fabulous Orleans gig and found out that Michael Jackson died. Very, very sad. A music legend gone too soon."

Perez Hilton, celebrity blogger, said: "To the paparazzi and mainstream media, PLEASE give the Jackson family space. Please. We DO NOT need to see pictures or videos of them now!"

TV presenter Holly Willoughby said: "What terribly sad news to be waking up to... legends always seem to be taken too early, he will never be forgotten."

Magician and entertainer Paul Daniels wrote on his blog: "What a strange life he had, and we will never know how much of it was staged and hyped."

Fans have also been leaving their tributes on a Facebook group which currently has nearly 32,000 members.
