Michael Jackson is at the top of every iTunes album chart in the world with the exception of Japan.

As of Monday morning, the Number Ones album is at the top of the UK's iTunes chart, with The Essential Michael Jackson album top in the US and Australia.

It isn't just iTunes benefiting from the surge in interest in Jackson, with the Last.fm music-streaming website recording 2,043,275 plays of Michael Jackson tracks in the week between Sunday 21 June and Sunday 28 June.

Michael Jackson died last Thursday and sales of the Number Ones album went through the roof, propelling it to top spot in the UK album chart which was announced on Sunday.

Searches for Michael Jackson-related topics also exploded since the star's death, with Google initially fearing it was the victim of a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack.

Data from web monitoring firm Hitwise showed that searches for "michael jackson" ranked seventh among all search terms in the US last week, accounting for one in every 500 internet searches.

However, the company also noted that many people are unable to spell 'michael', with the third most common search term that included the word "jackson" last week being "micheal jackson".
