Sewer monster: Watch the video

A strange, pulsating mass has been spotted in a North Carolina sewer by officials checking for snakes.

A video of the phenomenon has been posted to the YouTube video-sharing site, which shows what some people are calling the 'sewer monster'.

The video has been watched more than 4.4 million times. Be warned though: it's not for the squeamish.



Some believe the video is evidence of an extra-terrestrial lifeform on planet earth.

Others think it is the inside of an animal.

"I'm more worried about the fact there are so many people out there that can't tell thats the inside of a living being. I can't tell if its human but it looks like the digestive system," one viewer wrote.

However, some reports say that the phenomenon has been caused by a colony of tubifex worms, which live in sewage and pond sediment.
