Watch 'living statues' online

You can watch Antony Gormley's new living art installation in Trafalgar Square live on the web.

Living statue

Antony Gormley's living statue project, which will see 2,400 people stand on the top of a plinth in Trafalgar Square over the next 100 days, has begun and you can watch live online.

Cameras in Trafalgar Square will show live pictures of the plinth, which will host a new 'statue' every hour with the individuals chosen to stand atop the plinth able to do anything they please provided it is legal.

Gormley's One and Other project was given the go-ahead last month after Westminster Council made an appeal for ideas about what should go on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square.

A 35-year-old housewife, Rachel Wardell, was supposed to be the first person to stand on top of the plinth but was beaten to it by Stuart Holmes, an anti-smoking protester.

However, Holmes agreed to come down so Wardell could start her stint on time.

Anyone can apply to become a living statue through the One and Other website and applications will be chosen at random.
