The BBC's online video coverage of this year's Glastonbury festival was watched by record numbers, the corporation has said.

Online videos of this year's Glastonbury festival attracted four times as many views than the 2008 event.

The BBC's festival website received 7.2 million video requests, with Lady Gaga the most-watched single attraction with 1.3 million hits.

One week after the end of the Glastonbury festival, the website had over 400,000 unique viewers, an increase of 100,000 from last year’s festival.

Mark Friend, controller of Multiplatform and Interactive, Audio and Music at the BBC, said: "We wanted to make sure our audiences could enjoy the festival even if they weren't there and catch up with their favourite acts when it suited them.

"I'm delighted with these figures and very proud of what we've delivered this year," Friend continued.

Lily Allen and Blur were also big hits on the BBC website, gaining 762,000 and 538,000 requests each.

Other artists performing included Calvin Harris, Kasabian, The Script, Franz Ferdinand and many others.

In addition to the videos, Glastonbury also set up three webcams to give viewers the chance to watch the events unfold live.
