O2 customers will be able to get Twitter updates texted to their mobile phones from next month.
The network operator announced today that customers could have any direct messages or @replies sent directly to their phones.
In addition, customers will be able to send updates to Twitter via text for no additional charge on top of their monthly contract. Pay-as-you-go customers will be able to send text updates for the normal price of a text.
What is Twitter?
However, there is a 'fair usage' policy in place – customers will be asked to limit their text updates to a maximum of 600 per month.
"We believe that mobile will soon become the most popular way of accessing social-networking sites, giving real time access to tweets and status updates wherever you are," said Antony Douglas, head of Content at O2.
Vodafone already offers its customers a similar service.
