You can take a virtual trip back through time and tour Hackney, in London with two new sites from the Hackney Archives Department and launched in The National Archives. Today we take a look at Hackney Pastpacks...
At Tudor Hackney's sister site Hackney Pastpacks, you can find archived pictures and documents from Victorian Times.
The site, created by London Metropolitan Archives for Hackney Archives Department, combines a time line with audio-visual stories explaining theatre, local education and public health during that period.
Click on the time line on the bottom of the page and view slide shows on different aspects of life in Hackney through the ages, including documents of the Old Town Hall in 1802, London Docks in 1805 and the Battle of Waterloo.
We particularly liked the Audio Visual section where you can hear about life in Hackney and the Maps section is also fascinating.
The site is aimed at key stage 2-3 school children and is certainly fun to get around. But we don't think it has the wider appeal that Tudor Hackney offers and is not as in-depth.
Yesterday we took a look at Hackney Pastpacks's sister site Tudor Hackney.
