The Guardian has launched an online competition to find the best British blog, with £1,000 on offer for the top entry.
A blog or weblog is when someone, described as a weblogger or blogger, links to other web pages he or she finds interesting.
Blogging is very popular on the web with many sites dedicated to the pastime, including Plasticbag.org and Clagnut.com.
Simon Waldman, director of digital publishing at Guardian Newspapers, said: "Blogging has become one of the most exciting media phenomena of the last few years. This competition.. is a perfect way to promote blogging as a whole."
But the competition has attracted negative reaction from people who think the £1,000 prize money is causing some bloggers to "sell out".
One blogger, Tom Coates at Plasticbag.org, thinks there is "something profoundly wrong with asking people to compete in such an environment" and will link to the Guardian's competition with the words "a bloody stupid idea".
The competition closes on 6 September, with the winner announced later that month.
