Millions of holidaymakers have researched or bought their bargain breaks online, new research has revealed.
According to a report from Abbey National Credit Cards and Personal Loans, more than 11 million people have turned to the net for a cheap holiday deal.
But these bargain hunters are more likely to spend the savings they make online on "pre-holiday essentials".
While bargain breaks can be nabbed for as little as £200 via the internet, the average British holidaymaker spends £430 on holiday-related items like sun bed sessions, haircuts, lotions, books and new outfits.
Reza Attar-Zadeh, director of consumer credit at Abbey National, said: "Many people put a great deal of effort into shopping around for the best deal on their holiday but then don't look for the cheapest way to pay for it."
