Ile Parisienne

Web users can bid to become a private owner of land on an uninhabited island near the shores of Canada.

The southeast corner of Ile Parisienne (Parisian Island) is up for same at online auction site eBay.

Parisian Island lies between the Canadian and American shores of the eastern neck of Lake Superior known as Whitefish Bay. The area of land up for grabs is listed as: "one mile of beachfront and a little more than 114 acres of woodland and shore".

According to the seller, Carl Cohen, the area up for sale is the only area of land that will ever be available for private use on Parisian Island. The rest of the island is owned by the Canadian Government and is protected from "industrial activities".

"The white sand beaches, facing both south and east, are broad and splendid," said Mr Cohen in his description of the island.

So far only three bidders have participated in the auction with the current bid of $700,100.00 (£446,463.86) failing to reach the reserve price.

To prevent potential hoax bids, the auction requires bidders to pay a $500 (£318.94) refundable deposit to bid on the auction once the reserve has been met. The successful bidder will also have to submit an additional $4,500 (£2,870.42) deposit with 24 hours of winning and sign a contract of purchase within 14 days.

Carl Cohen is also selling missile Silos, airplane homes, inflatable churches and personal bunkers on eBay.

The island auction will end on 3 September.
