Sign online with your mouse

You could soon be signing your emails and online shopping bills using your mouse.

Project

You could soon be signing your emails and online shopping bills using your mouse.

Two English scientists have developed new software that lets you add your own signature to all digital communications with your mouse.

This new technology, which was created by Dr Peter McOwan and Ross Everitt from Queen Mary, University of London, could reduce internet fraud and make online shopping more secure.

According to Dr McOwan, the revolutionary system will recognise the way you use a mouse to sign your name. Dr Owan went on to say that that we won't need any specialised equipment

The software will work with any Java-enabled web browser and can also learn to recognise changes in your mouse signature characteristics.

Ross Everitt co-inventor of the system at Queen Mary, commented: "Any current Internet or controlled computer access application where a password is used can benefit from this additional layer of biometric security provided by our system, for example online banking, shopping, or accessing email. "
