Adrian Lamo, the 22-year-old hacker accused of breaking into the computer systems at The New York Times, Yahoo and Excite, has turned himself into the US police.
Lamo became notorious for his high-profile hacks on some of America’s biggest companies. He travelled around the country using public computers for his hacking activities, which made him a difficult target for the law to track down. Lamo used his hacks as career opportunities – he offered to work for free for his victims to improve the security of their networks.
Lamo has been released to his parents on bail but has been barred from using computers and ordered to fly to New York to turn himself in to FBI agents to face charges of illegally accessing The New York Times computer network.
