Wi-Fi home

European web users want to wirelessly surf the net at home, according to new research.

There are around 1,000 public hotspots available across Europe, located by coffee shops, pubs, hotels and airports.

But according to Jupiter Research, surfers are more keen on using different devices to communicate wirelessly at home, with 80 per cent of European net users interested in setting up home networking systems.

Sharing broadband internet connections and access to digital media, such as MP3 music, on a home stereo are reasons why surfers are interested in wi-fi, reports Jupiter.

Other reasons include the ability to use many computers from a single machine, no need for additional cabling (37 per cent) and a desire to watch PC video on a television set.

Ian Fogg, an analyst at Jupiter Research, said: "While the industry focus is mostly on public wi-fi hotspots, our research proves the near-term consumer opportunity is in the home and garden, not in a café or on the road."
