Ebay banana

Fruit-loving internet users have been battling it out for a banana at internet auction site eBay.

According to the seller, the banana was bought fresh from Tesco on 14 October 2003 but warned that it "may be a bit off by the end of the auction".

One madcap user has placed a bid of £10 for the bendy yellow fruit, which is now seven days old. There are still two days and three hours left for others to bid.

Seller, Nick R from Hastings, told Web User: "I started this auction as a joke but after 673 hits and a £10 bid on a banana, things are looking less joking."

The auction comes after the sale of a 2p piece for £7.50, a bucket of water for £255 and the town of Aberystwyth for £22.
