Men are seven times more likely than women to flash the cash while shopping online, dispelling the myth that women are the most extravagant shoppers.
According to new research, British men are the big spenders online - with one in twenty men admitting to have spent more than £5,000 online at one time.
The study, commissioned by online financial service company Directline.com, also reveals that men are seven times more likely than women to spend up to £1,000 online.
A third of women had spent less than £100 in online shops while only a quarter were ready to part with £500 for online holidays, the research found.
More than half of men buy motor insurance online and 36 per cent get their online travel insurance via the net.
However, although women spend less than men online they are more confident about what they buy, reports Directline. Eighty-five per cent of women say that they never been disappointed with their purchases.
