AOL is raffling off a top of the range sports car to one of its members in the US after it was seized from a spammer targeting email users.
The ISP managed to secure the Porsche as result of legal action it took against individuals and corporations in 2003. Its lawsuits were based on leads provided by members who clicked on the "Report Spam" button.
According to AOL, the raffle is a gesture of “thanks to its members for their cooperation in the fight against spam and spammers”.
"AOL has always placed our members in the driver's seat when it comes to spam fighting, and now we are going to put one of our members in the driver's seat of a spammer's sports car. We see this as a great way to teach spammers a lesson, and reward our members for their continued use of the 'Report Spam' button," said Randall Boe, executive vice president and general counsel at AOL.
Sadly, the AOL Anti-Spam Sweepstake is only available to AOL members in the US because of lottery regulations.
