Amid a growing crisis over the cost of petrol in the UK, a website has launched to keep you informed of the cheapest petrol in your area. Fears of a hike in pump prices were sparked after the UK crude oil price rose to its highest level since 1990 earlier this week following the Saudi Arabia hostage siege. Chancellor Gordon Brown will not decide until August whether to increase petrol duty, which could lead to a rise in pump prices, but FindCheapPetrol.com has been set up to keep drivers informed of any change in petrol price in their local area. According to E-Business Assist UK Ltd, which produces websites for consumers and niche interest groups, the site is largely dependent on site visitors submitting information on prices at their local filling stations. A spokesman for the website, said: "By subscribing free to the site, users can receive email and SMS alerts when another user posts details of prices in their selected area. Users will be able to choose two areas, for example where they live and where they work." In the event of petrol protests - earlier today fuel protesters called off action planned for across the country next week - the site said it aims to keep visitors up to date with which petrol stations are open and have fuel.
