Virgin.net has become to the latest ISP to introduce a capped broadband package - this one limits customers to downloading 3GB of data a month.

The £17.99 512Kbps service has no activation fee, no 12 month contract and comes with free anti-spam and email virus protection.

Called Virgin.net Broadband Plan Two, it runs alongside its existing 512Kbps broadband service that costs £24.99 a month for an unlimited service.

Peter Tuomey, sales and marketing director at Virgin.net, said: "We now offer two different broadband options to reflect what broadband users want. Everyone wants a fast connection and both our options provide that. However, the majority of broadband users don’t actually download vast amounts of data and they are more interested in high speeds at a lower monthly price."

Earlier this week, Tiscali told Web User that it had scrapped its capped broadband packages because its customers preferred an unlimited internet service.
