Tiscali has kicked off the New Year with the launch of two long-awaited 1Mbps broadband packages, one costing less than £16 a month.
An uncapped 1Mbps service costs £24.99 a month and a 1Mbps 2GB capped service costs £15.99 a month (for a limited time). Both have free activation and modem.
Tiscali announced back in March 2004 that it would be offering surfers the choice of a 1Mbps broadband connection but services failed to materialise.
According to Tiscali, it delayed launching the services while it waited for the migration process between BT Wholesale’s IPStream and DataStream products to be “up and running” and when the “pricing was reduced”.
Steve Horley general manager for Tiscali UK’s Broadband, Dial-up and SmartTalk services, said: “We went off a bit early with the 1Mbps announcements but we think our decision not to launch a service that we could not offer all our customers was the right one.”
Tiscali has also cut the cost of its uncapped 256Kbps from £19.99 to £15.99 a month, and the price of its uncapped 512kbps package from £24.99 to £19.99 per month. All customers currently on Tiscali’s 150Kbps £15.99 a month broadband service will be automatically upgraded to 256Kbps and current 512Kbps customers will move to a 1Mbps connection.
The slurry of announcements by Tiscali also includes new internet and telephone packages called SmartTalk (details of the voice packages can be found here) and a free web acceleration software tool for new and existing dial customers.
Tiscali Accelerator uses compression and caching technology to speed up your website viewing by up to three times faster than normal.
