Digital music service Wippit has teamed up with online directory Loot to launch an online music download service called Loot Tunes.

The service offers single downloads from 29p and albums at £8.99, with a special launch price of £20 for three albums. You can pay by credit card or SMS with an additional charge per SMS of £1.50.

You can either download music to a PC, burn music to CD or stream it to a media player – the MP3 files are iPod compatible but the WMA files (Windows operating system specific) are not.

Paul Myers, founder of Wippit, said: "Loot’s profile as a destination for bargain hunters is a good fit with Wippit’s product offering. Wippit is associated with value and so is Loot, so the marriage that creates Loot Tunes is ideal for consumers and an easy concept to grasp."

Artists available on Loot Tunes include Natalie Imbruglia, Jem, Joss Stone, Eddie Izzard and Mariah Carey. Loot Tunes said it will give ten MP3 players to new customers through a prize draw.
